We developed this Quick Start using on a brand-new WordPress installation running the Twenty-Twenty theme on WordPress 5.5 with no other plugins.
At the end of this Quick Start, you’ll have your first public team member profile created.
Start by activating the plugin. After successful activation, you’ll be taken to the Main Settings page:
Leave all of these settings at their defaults. You can reference this page when customizing them later.
Create a Profile
Click User Profiles in the admin menu:
You’ll be taken to the main User Profiles list. Let’s go ahead and create a profile by clicking Add New:
Enter the person’s name in the “First and Last Name” prompt. I have a (little bit of a) thing for Battlestar Galactica, so I’ll use Admiral William Adama for this example:
Next, enter biographical information for your individual:
Now, add a headshot by clicking Set profile photo in the Document panel on the sidebar:
Note: For best results, use a square image (width and height being equal).
After uploading your image, click Set profile photo:
Finally, add an excerpt by expanding Excerpt in the Document panel on the sidebar. This should be no more than 55 words in length, and will be displayed later.
Click Publish, then click View Profile:
Congratulations! Your first profile is now live!
Displaying a Directory
Now, let’s create a page where all of our team members are listed.
Return to the WordPress dashboard, then navigate to the Team and User Profile Options settings page. Copy the shortcode used for displaying a list of profiles:
Create a new page named “directory” (or whatever you prefer). Add a new block, search for “shortcode”, then click the icon to insert it into your page:
Paste the shortcode you copied earlier, then press <ENTER>:
Publish your page and view it. You’ll see a card with the team member you created earlier:
Here’s how the directory looks after adding two additional team members:
Congratulations! You’ve finished the Quick Start.
To further customize the plugin, start by visiting Public Profile Settings.
